{Love the Place You Live} Indian Point

This past "winter" (i.e. the time of year when it was too chilly to swim at the beach), L and I started exploring a few of our local parks. Quickly, Indian Point became one of our favorites. There's no playground and we've never seen any other children there but she loves it. She's loves the water and she loves the birds. Indian Point, with wetlands and a saltwater lake, has plenty of both.

There is a lovely fishing pier. One of the park rangers told us on really calm, clear days you can see huge fish swimming in the water below. We have yet to make it on a calm enough day...but it will happen sometime soon.

There is a board walk and bird watching platform. We've seen cormorants, brown pelicans, white pelicans, egrets, herons, roseate spoonbills, gulls, skimmers, and a number of other birds I haven't been able to identify. L loves to run and hear the sound of the boards under her feet.
There's also a lovely 2 mile walking path along the saltwater lake. Once we saw a deer on the far bank. The bird below is much bigger than it looks in the photo.
I love that we have such a wild place so near us. I love that my daughter loves to go "see the birds, see the birds!" (her words not mine). I love that she's so fond of such a peaceful place. It's easy to forget it's just off the freeway. It's the perfect early morning getaway.

One of these days we're going to spot some fish as well as birds.

This post is part of Design Mom's Love the Place You Live series.
